Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Institute of Postgraduate Dental Education in Jönköping, Sweden, is modern and includes acute care facilities.

The department provides a large exposure to major oral and maxillofacial surgery cases and has had a tradition of producing surgeons in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The four-year programme is designed to train postgraduate dental trainees. The programme includes out patient general anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, implant surgery, management of temporomandibular joint disorders including open surgery, surgical management of maxillofacial infections, hard and soft tissue trauma to the face and jaws, orthognatic surgery, reconstructive techniques including hard and soft tissue grafting, oral pathology and mucosal disease management.

Research within the department includes projects related to implant treatment, orthognatic surgery, autotransplantation, reconstructive surgery and hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
